Next you will pass through a coconut plantation and over the Hampstead River. On the right is the old Sugar Mill, a wonderful old stone stucture set by the rivers edge. There is no sugar cane left to grind but the mill is still used to make copra. If people are working that day they will tell you the history of the mill and explain the copra process. The oil is extracted from the coconut and then used in soaps, cosmetics, and for cooking oil. If you follow the river up from the mill you can find pools to bathe in to refresh yourself before you move on.
